Case Study: Process Oven with Afterburner
Jackson Oven Supply Inc. built a custom batch process oven for Destech Corporation located in Tucson, AZ. Destech was in search of a batch process oven that could be used for curing parts.
Technical Data and Process Information
The oven has interior dimensions of 4’ wide by 6’ tall by 4’ deep. It is gas fired with a maximum temperature of 500 degrees F. The unique aspect of the oven is its top mount afterburner. After the air leaves the oven chamber through the powered exhaust it enters the afterburner. The afterburner maintains exhaust gas temperature of 1400º – 1500º F for a minimum of ½ second residence-time to eliminate any smoke and odor.
This process makes the oven much more environmentally friendly than a standard Class A oven. A standard class A oven is required to have a powered exhaust fan to safely remove any volatile organic compounds from the oven chamber to prevent fires inside the oven.By adding the afterburner to the unit Jackson Oven designed a solution to eliminate nearly all of the smoke and odor present in the air stream.
