Afterburner Technology
This section of our web site introduces our afterburner technology available on our new ovens as well as retrofitted to an existing process.
Our afterburners address environmental violations and promote the good neighbor act. Afterburners are designed to remove smoke and odor from the air stream. The visual smoke and (or) fume smell from a process is vented through the afterburner chamber which operates at 1400 to 1900oF. The resultant effluent discharged to atmosphere consists of water vapor (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2), an environmental safe air stream.
For those processes that include Halogen materials, our afterburners can be augmented with a wet scrubber to eliminate those toxins from the air stream as well.
Design
The design of the afterburner incorporates a gas fired burner with assembled gas train components for a safe and reliable combustion system. The operation can be controlled from a stand-alone control panel or adapted to an existing control system.
To eliminate the risk of smoke or odor releasing to atmosphere the afterburner comes up to temperature prior to starting the main oven burner or process heater . The system has adequate retention time for complete fume combustion.
Construction
The afterburner is constructed of hot roll steel insulated with 2300oF mineral fiber blanket and carries a 10 year warranty.
Control
The standard system includes a state-of-the-art dual-element temperature-sensing unit placed in the afterburner chamber. This device senses temperature and will provide a digital readout on the corresponding instrument mounted in the control panel door. The afterburner controls include the following:
- NEMA 12 ENCLOSURE
- ELECTRONIC FLAME PROVING SYSTEM
- HIGH LIMIT CONTROLLER (FM APPROVED)
- TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER
- INDICATING LIGHTS AND PUSH BUTTONS
Combustion Safeguards, Gas Train and Ignition System
Burner and gas train are mounted on the afterburner or can be stand-alone. Standard combustion safeguards and gas train include the following:
- AUTOMATIC SPARK IGNITION
- COMBUSTION AIR BLOWERS
- AUTOMATIC SAFETY SHUT-OFF VALVES
- MANUAL SHUT-OFF VALVES
- MAIN GAS PRESSURE REGULATOR
- GAS PRESSURE GAUGES
- HIGH AND LOW GAS PRESSURE SWITCH
Exhaust Stack
The afterburner includes high temperature exhaust stack that mounts directly onto the discharge of the afterburner. Exhaust stack system includes roof flashing, weather collar and rain cap.
